6am. Daylight is there since about 1h. A first bus where early workers are still napping, among this amazingly calm Lima. I meet Tito, Peruanitos group head, an association which gives support to children from poor districts.

We are leaving the city to reach San Martin de Porres, a Northern district. We have to change bus to start going up the Candela hill, where the dining hall is, on chaotic roads.
After being shaken for about half an hour, we finally get off the bus. But we are not arrived yet: now we have to climb stairs to reach the top called “vista alegre” (Joyful point of view). Once again, houses are made of sheet steel. Dogs, cats and children running, mums waving and chatting.
Candela hill. At the top, water tank.
At the premise, volunteering mothers are cooking breakfast. Cinammon oat quaker with ham sandwich. No domestic water, a neighbour supplies water tanks that have to be carried up. Gas cooking, cheaper than electricity.
The premise is a quite large building in quite good conditions. Tables and chairs are installed to welcome 100 children from 3 to 11. Without the help of Peruanitos, they may have nothing to eat on Saturday mornings.

Little by little, children are coming, with their brothers and sisters or their mum. They seem to have made many friends there. Tito checks that every child who has its name on the list is here, and asks to mothers if one is absent.
On this hill of poverty, a child smile can appear thanks to a gifted breakfast every Saturday morning. Peruanitos also gives school furnitures and organizes events to bring happiness to these children from poor districts. When the association gets enough donations, it can even offer quality wood beds to houses where sometimes, all brothers and sisters sleep on the same matress, when there is one.
Peruanitos brings also social help to women, who sometimes are not respected at their own house. But the association can only work thanks to donations, which are sometimes not enough. I personnaly met the members of the association and I can insure that money is well used. So if you want to bring your support, you can visit their website (in Spanish): http://www.peruanitos.org/
Thanks for the children!
